BASS LINES WINDOW

The Bass Lines window is where bass lines are created. This window is active only when the Bass Line | Manual menu item is selected in the Main window, otherwise bass lines are automatically made up by the program.

The Bass Lines window has these components:

Play Button, below the Slider Panel, plays the bass line selected by the Left slider or the Right slider.

Look and Feel Combo Box, sets the look and feel to Windows, Java or Solaris.

Help buttons, for window and field-level help:

Item Help button	Help for any item - click this button and then click the item that you need help for

Slider Panel, in the top left of the window, containing:

Set button	sets the bass lines for the selected Chord Fields. When the Set button is clicked, the borders of the selected Chord Fields are highlighted in red.
Left slider	selects the Chord Fields in the first half of the row of the Composition Panel opposite the slider's position
Right slider	selects the Chord Fields in the second half of the indicated row
Clear All button	removes all bass lines from all Chord Fields in the Composition Panel

Composition Table, in the top right of the window, comprised of:

Fields Table	three rows and four columns of white 1-bar Chord Fields, displaying chords selected for use in the Chord Progressions window
Units Table	three rows and four columns of colored 2-bar Units, displaying forms selected for use in the Form (Melody) window

Bass Line Buttons, at the bottom of the window, set bass line types, as follows:

No Bass Line	clears bass line for the selected Chord Fields. Useful for deleting specific selections.
Root	root held throughout the bar
Dotted Root	root repeated in "dotted" rhythm i.e., dotted quarter note followed by an eight note followed by a half note;
Root Fifth	root on the first beat of each bar and dominant on the third beat of each bar
Dotted Root-Fifth	root and fifth as above but in "dotted" rhythm
Walking Scale	bass moves by quarter notes up and down notes of a scale
Walking Chord	bass moves by quarter notes up and down notes of a chord (presently, triads only)
